The Tommyknockers

The Tommyknockers

, by katt oconnell, 1 min reading time

The Tommyknockers are from a Cornish Legend brought to the United States, by the miners from Cornwall.
When the miners came over to take part in the 1800s gold rush in Pennsylvania, they told tales of the Tommyknockers stealing their food and unwatched items when they weren't looking. The miners described the knockers as being 2 feet tall or less, with a large head, long arms and wrinkly skin. Supposedly they would wear miners clothing so as to go un-noticed. The miners said that the Tommyknockers would knock to let them know of rich veins of tin. As time went on, the legend morphed, and the Tommyknockers were said to be the souls of the dead who had died in the mines, and so their spirits would knock to warn miners that there were dangers of the mine walls collapsing.
