The Kraken

The Kraken

, by katt oconnell, 1 min reading time

The Kraken is a legendary sea monster. Some believe it to resemble a large octopus, while others say its a giant squid. Either way this thing is monstrous! (pun intended). The legend is traced by to Scandinavian folklore, where Vikings described it as a beast, capable of bringing down large sailing vessels with its tentacles. They would report sightings of large tentacles coming up from the ocean, which they believed would drag their ships down into the depths.

It is supposedly thought to be the biggest monster in the world and can be found from Norway to Greenland. And apparently it has a huge appetite. It is said that it can eat the entire crew of the ships it brings down and not think a thing of it. No wonder sailors were so afraid of it. Could you imagine how scary it must have been to not know anything about the oceans during that time and then to see something like this come up from out of nowhere? I'm surprised that all sunken boats aren't blamed on the Kraken!

And then during the 18th century there were reports of seeing more than one at a time! And for those sailors to continue going on those routes, I think they deserved the treasure they looted just for surviving!
