The Dark Watchers are seen primarily in the Californian region of Big Sur, home to the Santa Lucia Mountains. They are tall (some have said that they are up to 10 feet tall!), humanoid figures who appear in the shadows, just enough so that you see them out of the corners of your eyes. People report that they wear capes and hats, but you can see no other features. It is said that they have haunted the California coast for hundreds of years.
When the Spanish arrived in the 1700's they reported feeling watched from these beings who would stand at the tops of mountains and hills. They were very eerie and creepy.
Author John Steinbeck wrote a story in 1938 called "Flight" where one of his characters saw a dark watcher, who thought it better to ignore them and show no interest in them.
They are said to show up between late afternoon and twilight, and they disappear in the blink of an eye. No one knows where they go or even where they came from. Some think its just shadows playing off your imagination.
