The Borrego Sandman comes to us from California. Known as the Abominable Sandman of Borrego, its described as an 8-10 foot tall beast with white fur, glowing red eyes, a nasty scent, and weighing up to 400 pounds. Some say that its a distant cousin of bigfoot only with white hair and it resides in the largest state park in California. The part of the park where this monster is said to reside is called the Borrego Badlands. The Native Americans living in those parts used to refer to them as Hairy Devils.
As more and more people moved to California in the 1800s, more people began to witness these beings, and soon stories spread throughout California. One such story was in 1876 when a man named Turner Helm was prospecting and looked up to see a sandman. He tried to communicate with it but it became aggressive, so Helm took out his gun and that was enough to scare it off. Later there was a story were Charles Cox and Edward Dean went in search of it because they thought it could be responsible for many murders in the area. And it 1939 a prospector was supposedly attacked by a group of sandmen.
Sightings increased until the 21st century when the number of reports began to drop making people think that it may have started migrating to other regions.
